FAQs
How do I book an Adoption Appointment for the Open Day?
To register for an Adoption Appointment your first step is to complete an Adoption Application found https://bit.ly/AdoptApplyGAPWA. On the application you can indicate that you’re interested in attending the GAP Open Day. The information gathered from the application will ensure the team can select your perfectly matched greyhound to meet on the day. Once your application has been received the team will begin the matchmaking process. When a suitable match has been found the team will be in contact via email and phone with the suggested ‘hound. When a match has been accepted the team will confirm an appointment time.
There will be parking at the front of our facility, as well as street parking on Furley Road. Please be courteous of our neighbours when parking.
Can I attend if I don’t want to adopt on the day?
Yes, GAP will be holding “Pat and Chat” sessions 11.00am to 12.00pm, and 2.30 to 3.30pm (registration required). During these sessions people are welcome to chat to GAP staff and volunteers, as well as interact with greyhounds. Pat and Chat sessions are an opportunity for people curious about greyhounds as companions as well as to get some hands-on experience. There is no obligation to adopt, foster or volunteer for attendees of Pat and Chat sessions. Adoption Application will be available to complete on the day, with appointments to be arranged for another day. Pre-registration for these sessions is still required. You can register here https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/966914686857/
What if I miss out on an Adoption Appointment?
GAP will have the capacity for up to 24 adoptions appointments. If you register for an Open Day appointment but an adoption appointment cannot be confirmed due to availability GAP will honour the $150 price until 31 December 2024. The GAP Team will be in contact to arrange another date and time.
Can I bring my dog?
No. We ask that all current pets are kept at home unless prior arrangement is made directly through the GAP team. The team will talk adopters through how to introduce their new greyhound to resident animals.
How much will it cost to adopt a greyhound?
Anyone who takes their new greyhound home on the day of the Open Day and successfully adopts them will be eligible for a reduced adoption fee of $150. Our standard adoption fee is $200. If a GAP Open Day adoption appointment cannot be confirmed due to availability GAP will honour the $150 price until 31 December 2024.
Which greyhounds are available to adopt?
Everyone who has an Adoption Appointment will be sent their matched greyhound’s profile ahead of the day. If, on the day the selected greyhound is not suitable the GAP Team will review alternative options. Please note that some greyhounds are housed at an alternative facility and so may not be available to leave on the day if an appointment wasn’t confirmed prior.
I live regionally and can’t attend the Open Day, can I benefit from the reduced adoption fee?
If you live 150km or more from the GAP facility (357 Furley Road, Southern River) and can’t attend the Open Day, GAP will honour the $150 adoption fee for applications made from 1 to 30 September 2024. Please note that the dog you will be matched with will be available for straight adoption only. This means the dog has prior experience living in a home and the adoption will be finalised on the day of collection. The adoption must be finalised by 31 December 2024.
